performance impact of linux bridge

Most of the time I don't need a bridge, but when I do, it's usually at an inconvenient time to set one up.

If I configure a bridge (br0) and attach my normal interface to it (eth0) at boot, is there much of a performance impact: CPU, memory usage, network throughput?

To be honest, bridging needs more CPU resources, but everything depends on your network traffic. I'm sure you will not have any problems.

I've had it going for a few days now and haven't noticed anything. Most of the time it's just a br0,eth0 bridge without any tap interfaces. Then again, I don't really monitor performance or keep logs...
