optimize spamassasin

My greeting to the nice community. I dont know if someone expert at spamassasin can help me. I have installed my spamassasin on my computer in order to get rid of the hundreds of spams i have. I also know that spamassasin is usually used at mail server and not at home pcs but still i have decided to use it so i can learn how it works. I need some help to optimize it so i will reduce the resources it needs to work just a little faster: )

Two thoughts come to ming immediately.

First, run it as a daemon (ie spamd)

Second, and this depends on how you have it configured, but turn off non local checks. From memory this stop dns checks and the like.
