No wifi in ifconfig and in network-manager

A long time ago, I removed my wifi capabilities from my laptop, I know I shouldn't have gotten rid of wifi but it was during that time that wpa2 vulnerability was found and I didn't want to risk it. , I thought it would be a stationary laptop with an ethernet cable so no need for wifi, now my network card is causing me kernel panic and I would like to get my wifi back. I used rfkill to block my wifi using my /etc/rc.local rfkill block wifi and I must of blacklisted the module. I don't remember the module name, however there is nothing in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf. In lsmod it's listed as
Code:
asus_wireless 16384 0
I think it was called iwlwifi but I could be mistaken. This is a laptop in question, An ASUS Zenbook UX310 I7 6500U and I really don't want to end up reinstalling my Ubuntu, I would rather find a solution that doesn't require such a drastic action. Here is a list of my modules.
Code:

I got rid of the rc.local edit rfkill block wifi, but as soon as I did that, and I rebooted, my network would fail within a few minutes, I tried it a few times and the same result. I just wish I knew what I did, so I could undo it.

Some additional info :
lspci -> Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 7265 (rev 59)

Code:
iw
is the new wireless utility.

I see r8152 and cdc_ether in your modules. You can unload them with rmmod. cdc_ether uses usbnet, which I don't recognize off-hand - I would think it means that cdc_ether deals with a USB connection?. mii is used by usbnet and r8152.

Is wireless built in? What does
Code:
cat /proc/net/dev
report?

Yes the wireless is built in, it's a laptop. It reports the following
Code:
cat /proc/net/dev

If I unload r8152 I won't have a active connection, as Wifi isn't even listed in ifconfig ->
Code:
ifconfig
enx0023576c7619 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr ##:##:##:##:##:##

It used to be the third one in ifconfig, it's no longer there, thus I think I need to load the wifi module to get it to work ?

Ok I booted up a live session and I connected using wifi and I did a lsmod and I found two modules that are missing in my current install.
Code:
mac80211 1 iwlmvm
iwlwifil 1 iwlmvm
How can I get them back ? I tried
Code:
insmod mac80211
insmod: ERROR: could not load module mac80211: No such file or directory
same with the other one and it didn't work.

Code:
insmod
requires a present file to load. You want to use
Code:
modprobe
which looks in /lib/modules/$kernelversion.

My laptop has a wireless button on it that en/disables it. You may have to press that. Some computers en/disable it in the BIOS, which you check on start. You may merely need to start loading the necessary drivers. asus_wireless is the 'asus wireless radio control driver' - I think that's not wifi.

Code:
lspci
should report the built-in wifi hardware, which will tip you to the necessary drivers.

I did it guys! Now my ifconfig looks like this
Code:
ifconfig
enx0023576c7619 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr ##.##.##.##.##.##
          inet addr:#.#.#.# Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000

lo Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
          inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host

          RX bytes:165482 (165.4 KB) TX bytes:165482 (165.4 KB)

wlp2s0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr ##.##.##.##.##.##
          inet addr:#.#.#.# Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
          inet6 addr: fe80::###################### Scope:Link

          TX packets:# errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
Here is a part of my lsmod
Code:
lsmod
Module Size Used by
arc4 16384 2
iwlmvm 385024 0
iwlwifi 249856 1 iwlmvm
mac80211 782336 1 iwlmvm
cfg80211 614400 3 iwlmvm,iwlwifi,mac80211
What I did to fix this issue was first I looked in my Live Ubuntu session to see which modules I needed exactly, I copied them down on a piece of paper and then I went into the Ubuntu installed on disk and I did
Code:
modprobe iwlwifi
modprobe mac80211
I then checked if they were loaded, they were and I went into the GUI network config and I saw Enable Wifi and I was able to connect via wifi and I disconnected the Ethernet connection. Now should I just leave it as is, disconnected or should I unload the ethernet modules also to prevent future kernel panics, and if so which modules ?
