Hi there,

This is my first post here and I am BRAND new to Linux and dont have much networking knowledge.

I have Fedora 1 installed and finally am able to activate my ethernet card. I was first getting a "no link" message but after reading some posts here got that fixed.

Now the card is activated but I still cant seem to use Mozilla to surf. I have my NIC connected to a cable modem and my card is set to get an ip address automatically.

I saw in a post a suggestion to ping my ip address but am not sure how to find out what my ip address is.

What should I check/change to get this working?

If you're running as root:
# ifconfig

if not
$ /sbin/ifconfig

if you get an address that starts with 169 then you aren't connected
127.0.0.1 is the local address, if you can't ping that then you have serious issues.

I don't recommend fedora. try redhat 9 if you aren't too far along. Fedora is kinda buggy from leftover code where "redhat" wasn't replaced with "fedora" - or at least that's what I've heard - and it certainly didn't work well for me

Looks like Im all good. The "obtain dns info" wasnt checked in the dns configuration.
