NNTP 452 with knode and pan
Hi,
I just switched ISPs and my nntp server is now news.acmenet.net (dummy names). Now supposedly I don't have to authenticate but both knode and pan prompt me to authenticate. So when I put my user and pass in there I get a 452 authentication failed. Now my ISP assures me there is no user/pass required but also assures me they won't support linux. I experimented with telnet a bit...here are some results:
TELNET IN AND LIST GROUP:
rich@localhost:~$ telnet news.acmenet.net nntp
Trying 38.XXX.XX.XXX...
Connected to news.acmenet.net.
Escape character is '^]'.
200 Welcome!
list newsgroups
215 LIST newsgroups
alt.binaries.cd.image
alt.binaries.cd.image.discussion.tools
alt.binaries.cd.image.tools.d
alt.binaries.dominion.games
...
Now, this is funny. I can't even retreive a list of groups via knode or pan without being prompted for a username and password! But, the server did give me a list without authentication!
FAILED AUTHENTICATION:
authinfo user myuser
381 Helo myuser password required
authinfo pass mypass
452 Login Failed myuser domain corp -ERR myuser@corp not present or password incorrect
And here we have what knode and pan return when I enable authentication and provide a user/pass. I'm thinking this is a strangely configured NNTP server..any thoughts?
