nmap -sP only sees its self

I run
Code:
nmap -n -sP 192.168.0.0/24
from my gentoo machine as privilaged user and get back the 4 hosts I expected, but
the same command line from a Debian based NSlu2 running as root only returns the IP address of the Debian box.
The NSlu2 can individually ping the other ip addresses so what can I do to allow nmap to do the same ?

FYI
Code:
-n
is not not resolve host names, just return IP address.
Code:
-sP
tells namp to not try and scan the host after pinging it.
Code:
192.168.0.0/24
is the entire subnet I am using.

I rebooted the NSlu2 for an unrelated reason and now it works.
guess a apt-get install nmap requires something to restart ...
