NIS install on Red Hat 9.0
Hi--
I decided to try to set up my network via nfs. We have 4 users and I want to switch to a linux desktop. The server we have is running Red Hat 9.0 and has been working well for a couple of years running samba.
As I am setting this up, I cannot get the workstations to see the shares on the server with the correct permissions. I suspect the problems I have are that the userids and groupids on the server and the client machines are not in sync.
So after much tribulation I managed to install ypserv on the server (which is the red hat 9.0 machine).
Now I cannot get ypserv started.
I have portmap running on the server and have done--
rpcinfo -u localhost ypserv
/etc/init.d/ypserv start
service ypserv start
but service ypserv status reports that ypserv is stopped. ypserv -d hangs.
I have not found any log files that mention ypserv, so I have no clue what is the problem here.
