NIC interface problem with Broadcom Gig Integrated Controller w/RH9 on Dell D600

I have a dual booted Win XP/RedHat9 system with a Broadcom Gigabit Integrated Controller NIC (bcm570x). On the Windows side it works fine but on the Linux side the boot loader does not recognize the NIC. This is preventing me from loading a particular client/server oriented software package.

I have downloaded the bcm5700-5.0.16 tar.gz file

Does anyone have experience with this problem and/or advise regarding how the install and activate the NIC? Thank you.

If I understand bootloaders correctly, the boot loader doesn't have anything to do with recognizing the NIC. That's the job of the kernel and it's modules.

I have a Broadcom BCM571 working just fine with kernel module tg3. Do lsmod to see if tg3 is loaded. If not, then modprobe tg3 to see if that helps.

Thank you for your input bigrigdriver. I found and downloaded the bcm5700 driver from Broadcom and installed it. It seems to be working fine now. By "bootloader recognition" of the NIC. I guess that I meant to say that you can configure Kudzu to bring up the NIC card (eth0) during the boot process. Prior to the installation of the Broadcom dirver, I would get a message during the boot process stating that the NIC could not be found. I am new to Linux and probably explianed this incorrectly. Thanks.
