nic in promiscious mode


If a nic is in promiscious mode 'ifconfig eth0 promisc', am I right in saying that it doesnt need an IP address?? as long as its physically connected to our switch, we can have it 'catch' packets as a IDS box running snort.

Yes, as long as every packet flows through that port.
