nic bonding, traffic is spread not equally

Hello,

i have two nics as slaves bonded with mode 5 (tlb).

It works fine, but the problem is that it does not distribute traffic equally, for example at the moment i have like 100mb on one interface and 50mb on other, maybe anyone has experience here and could share where should i start looking

thanks

This is correct. Port-Channels (cisco speak) or bonded channels, if you prefer, use an algorithm to decide which links are used for which data. The simplest might be, for two members, even numbered destination MAC addresses down one link and odd down the other. i.e. last bit of the MAC.

For more channels it might use the last two bits or it might hash the source and destination mac address. Some kit can include IP addressing in the decision as well. The upshot of this is that communication betweem any two points (MACs in my simple scheme) will always use the same links in any one direction.

Until you build up a certain number of sources and destinations transmitting simultaneously you will not see even loading.
