nfs service starts, however it takes 15 mins

Hey all,

I've had the wierdest problem that I'd like to get rid of but can't figure out or find any information on. I can't seem to get my server to both quickly with the nfs service. It hangs out for like 10 mins before carrying on. This is what my exports file looks like:

/mnt/Juno 10.3.7.0/24(rw,nohide,no_root_squash,async)
/mnt/Hades 10.3.7.0/24(rw,nohide,no_root_squash,async)
/mnt/DropBox 10.3.7.0/24(rw,nohide,no_root_squash,async)

and apparently my hosts file can cause problems, but nothing I do there fixes it either.

127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain
10.3.7.2 Gate

The 10.3.7.* interface happens to be my internal network. Does anyone have any ideas ?

Thanks,
Kilka

yep, portmap is running

Thanks for the reply David,

Portmap is running:
[root@Gate root]# ps -e | grep port
2299 ? 00:00:00 portmap

However nfs is only taking a long time to start, but once it's started it's fine. I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with some of the other services i'm running on the machine, but still can figure it out....

Regards,
Kilka

Do you have any iptables rules?

It is usually a good idea to make sure that there is a rule to allow access to the loopback from the loopback. I have just tested this and it seems to considerably delay the nfs startup process. Try adding a rule like:
iptables -A INPUT -s 127.0.0.1 -d 127.0.0.1 -j ACCEPT

You may even want to stop iptables altogether just to test.
