networking with linux and windows?


is there anyway i could network my linux station to the windows pc's in my computer? i have figured it out in windows, and have everything working fine that way, but how do i make it work on linux? i have redhat 7.0

I think it's time for a sticky post since this seems to get asked about every two days, how about it moderators? I might try to put somthing together.

Short answer: yes read the old posts in this forum

longer answer: You can share and mount drives between linux and windows and you can share an internet connection between then.
Read the old post in the forum and ask specific questions.

Sorry not quite sure what you mean. Are you tring do the initial connection (ie IP settings etc) or are you after ways of sharing files from the linux machine so that they appear in "My Computer" in Windows (ie as a mapped drive).

If it is the first one i found that the RH 9 dhcp settings easily sorted out my IP addy for me when i connected it to my windows network and picked up the shared internet connection running into and out of a windows box. It gets a bit more complicated though if you start trying to share internet connection through RH (or it did for me at least).

If you are simply trying to get shared files or folders off your linux box then i think you need to use SAMBA.
