Networking fundamentals (ethernet)

I've been reading about all this for a long time, but anyway, I want to start from the basics - I have a DSL router (or router/bridge or whatever it is - the thing that the DSL wire plugs into and has an Ethernet slot for my computer conn.). There is an admin interface that you get by going "192.168.1.1" in the browser - if I want to change it so I get to it by "192.168.1.2" then what do I do?

Hi

You would need to login to you administration interface (via 192.168.1.1) and change the IP address to 192.168.1.2. The complexity of this task would depend on you DSL router. Some would have a nice web gui other will have a command line. If you post your DSL router model you would probably get better help...

You can usually reset that on most routers by going into the router's admin interface; there's usually an option to reset the router's ip, in your case from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.2.
