I recently installed red hat 7.2 on my pc. I have 2 nic cards which I have repeatedly tried to get to work. I have a d-link DFE-530TX+, which I have heard has compatibilty issues with 7.2. I also have a netgear pci fa311 which I have heard works well with linux. I compiled the drivers and loaded the object modules yet still have problems. Does anyone use this nic card with redhat 7.2? If so, any help would be greatly appreciated.
If the module for the 311 compiled and loaded without error, then what's the following problem? Also, how do you get the IP address for the machine? PPPoe, DHCP, static?
What do the following command's output?:
ifconfig eth0 up (which will bring up the device)
ifconfig (will show all of the working devices)
I actually didnt get any errors, just warnings. There was some disrepancy as to what directory to put it in form the instructions that came with it for linux. I am using cox cable modem service, so dhcp is what is used to get the ip. I'm pretty sure I configured it right and that my nic card is not being recognized.
Uh... about 5 warnings, all of which probably complained about version symbols and blah blah. The module didn't load. RH likes to compile their kernels very strictly.
I keep seeing in google that the natsemi.o driver covers that card. This may not work, but try:
