Network ping problem

Hi everybody,

Here I have problem that have no idea how to solve it alone.
I have 2 ethernet cards but when I look at the Network configuration in "Hardware Tab" I have another acx wireless network.
How to delete that because In my system Idon't have wireless card..probably installed before but want delete it now.

Secondly. I can't ping server from client [windows]. but after run in Server RHEL5
#/etc/init.d/network restart
Shutting down interface eth0: [ OK ]
Shutting down interface eth1: [ OK ]
Shutting down loopback interface: [ OK ]
Disabling IPv4 packet forwarding: net.ipv4.ip_forward = 0
[ OK ]
Bringing up loopback interface: [ OK ]
Bringing up interface eth0: RTNETLINK answers: File exists
Error adding address 192.168.1.4 for eth0.
[ OK ]
Bringing up interface eth1: [ OK ]

then windows can ping server and resolve ip address and browsing Internet but can't ping google.com
result is Request time out.

ICMP already enabled in iptables.

Any help appreciated

I guess you could blacklist that nic. Might look in bios. Might be some part of a nic on the motherboard. Might be that is the nic you actually have or the driver your disto selected.

nslookup www.google.com for more clues maybe.

Forget about the ping it is a poor testing tool.

You don't know if it was installed before?

Your profile doesn't mention what distro you're using, but the explantion may be that "acx" is a phantom related to the way your distro does things. I've had MEPIS installs that would list "ath0" even though there was no wifi h/w.

I disagree, it may not be a good in-depth testing tool; but it is a great "quick & dirty" one.

Thanks for the reply.
I had checked the BIOS and only enabled and disabled options.

Hi archtoad6,

Thanks for the opinion.
Hmm...I might had installed the driver or hardware..
When I run
# /etc/init.d/network restart
Shutting down interface eth0: RTNETLINK answers: Network is unreachable
[ OK ]
Shutting down interface eth1: RTNETLINK answers: Network is unreachable
[ OK ]
Shutting down loopback interface: [ OK ]
Disabling IPv4 packet forwarding: net.ipv4.ip_forward = 0
[ OK ]
Bringing up loopback interface: [ OK ]
Bringing up interface eth0: RTNETLINK answers: File exists
Error adding address 192.168.1.4 for eth0.
[ OK ]
Bringing up interface eth1: [ OK ]

Would that RTNETLINK actually causing the problem here? how to fix that hence when I restart it will not appeared again.

I think you may need to start with lspci.

Ping a poor tool because you should already know the answer from other tools that you have used. Ping is a poor choice because it can easily be blocked by any number of ways and reasons. Ping isn't even a protocol that you normally use. ifconfig and other commands would have told you more about the issue in my opinion.
