network interface seems to die after few minutes

Hi all,

I have been using this machine (Acer TM2480 notebook) for about seven months now and wired network wise there were never any problems until recently it seems to just stop randomly. I am using mepis 6.0 and kde has this icon in the panel like two network cards stacked on top of each other. normally I can see arrows on top and bottom of it come and go, depending on network activity. when the problem occurs it only shows the top arrow, as if there is only one way traffic going on at that stage. when I use the mepis utilities to switch the nic off and back on, I have full functionality back for a few minutes.

here are some outputs:

Code:
root@3[sbin]# ifconfig

I have no idea if these outputs were ever different before I had this problem. It does say "0000:02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd.: Unknown device 4352 (rev 14)" but as it is a built in one, the configuration has never changed.

thanks
Ron.

well, this one is too simple for words; one broken wire in the cable was the culprit.
