Network configuration

Hey, I'm a newbie to linux and want to make a network between my win2k box and linuxbox(redhat8.0). When I want to configure the network in redhat it just won't connect. Every time i get this message "con not activate device ....". I use the option "obtain automatically ip by dhcp"

What am i doing wrong?
Or what did I forget

Please explain more details. Are you trying LAN conection only between two computer ?. If it is so, you better statics IP in both computers.

We need some more information to help. Things like:

1) What are you doing when you get the "can no activate device" error?

2) What type of network connection do you want? Sharing files?

3) Do you have Samba installed?

4) Do you have a computer or router running as a DHCP server on your network?

I'm a fellow newbie, but I'll help where I can. I just got finished setting up my network... mostly.
