Network card problems

in my exp., 3com is not the best choice for linux functionality, or for anything else for that matter. I would be suspicious of the 3com module.

do a traceroute from eth1 to the gateway, and then to say, www.linuxquestions.org and post the results...it sounds like a problem i had in the lab in that the nic card was recognized by the system but not by the dhcp server, cause the system didn't know how to respond to the arp/rarp from the dhcp server. no response = no configuration...
