netcat -e

I have been trying to experiment with netcat recently, however I cannot use the -e option. I am using Fedora 8, and using nc that comes from my repository.
When I try to use:
Code:
nc -l xxxx -e xxxx
I get:
Code:
nc: invalid option -- e
I'm pretty new to netcat, so it may be an obvious mistake, so any help would be appreciated.

Devilz.

if you check the nc manpage of help on fc8 you'll see that that option isn't mentioned at all, so the error is quite right.

Alright, I had a feeling it was something like that.
So is there any other way for me to have it use another program, like the -e option does?

Thanks, Devilz.

Can you please explain what you expect the --e option to do? If you can explain that we might be able to recommend something else.

The -e option could be used like this:
Code:
nc -l -p xxxx -e /bin/sh
That way, everything received will be used a command in the shell.

I figured out the problem though, the rpm version doesn't have the -e option for some reason, so I simply downloaded the .tar.gz and it works fine.
