need to VPN to an external VPN server

Hi!

I am a VPN newbie.

First, my Internet connection is via pppoe (ADSL) with dynamic IP.

I am using Slackware with NAT.

I have two settings I wish to achieve:
1. To VPN from Mac Os X Tiger through Slackware NAT
2. Use Slackware NAT as VPN client itself.

Thanks in advance.

well do you have any VPN server running already? check OpenVPN or Freeswan which include client information too.

The VPN server is my Uni's

I have tried connecting from Mac via Linux NAT with the following log:

Code:
Sun Jan 22 18:33:14 2006 : PPTP connecting to server 'XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX' (XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX)...
Sun Jan 22 18:33:14 2006 : PPTP connection established.
Sun Jan 22 18:33:14 2006 : Using interface ppp0
Sun Jan 22 18:33:14 2006 : Connect: ppp0 <--> socket[34:17]
Sun Jan 22 18:33:14 2006 : MS-CHAP authentication failed: E=648 Password expired
Sun Jan 22 18:33:14 2006 : Connection terminated.
Sun Jan 22 18:33:14 2006 : PPTP disconnecting...
Sun Jan 22 18:33:14 2006 : PPTP disconnected
Sun Jan 22 18:33:14 2006 : PPTP disconnected
I would like to confirm the log above means that Linux NAT is handling the PPTP attempt well. And it is really a problem with my authentication.

As for Linux.

I have just compiled and install ppp_mppe module (2.6.15). And install pptp-1.7.0 from source.

According to:
http://pptpclient.sourceforge.net/

There is pptpconfig prog, but it is not there. I do have pptp in /usr/sbin/ after make, make install.

I guess I have to configure /etc/ppp/option.pptp by hand.

Am grappling around in the dark.
