Need help with setting up domain and web server

Hi, here is what I am trying to do. I want to create my own server and domain. I don't want to pay for hosting and domain name for a web site that I am creating. I have plenty of very decent computers to use. If anyone can give me some info on setup and requirements I would be grateful. I have not decided on a distro as of yet and am open to suggestion.
