I have only been using RH9 for 2 days now but feel I am making steady progress. I have come to an abrupt halt when trying to edit the ect/host and the ect/sysconfig/network files. I have searched this forum for answers with limited success. I have ended up getting these 2 files in a right old mess. Could someone please post there working host and network files so that I can use them as an example to work from.
I found this by typing in 'ipconfig/all' on the Win XP machine. Now when I log into RedHat a message comes up saying 'Could not find hostname 'jennie' try editing the /ect/hosts file' (Its my wifes (Jennies) computer). Do you know what I should type into the hosts file to sort this out? Also is the Default Gatway I found by typing in 'ipconfig/all' the correct address?
In /etc/hosts file u should mention the name of the hosts u want to comm with along with there IP address.
In /etc/sysconfig /network u should write the details about Gateway only when u need to comm with the hosts residing at some other network.
if u dont want to ust this facility u can delete this line anyway
sidd
