My Internet Connection

This is kind of strange. I was connecting to the internet with Linux through my ISP. All of the sudden it stopped. Now I can PING the DNS Servers but I can't get beyond that.

Is there something else I need to look for on my end or is it with my ISP?

I have checked my resolv.conf and pap-secrets files and they are correct

At this point I don't know what else to do. I have just sent an email off to my ISP, but I know they don't support Linux, so I am looking for some advice in this forum.

Thank You in Advance
Dave

You seem to point it out as a DNS issue. Is it just DNS names you can't ping? Try both:
ping www.linuxquestions.org
ping 64.179.4.146

Thanks for your responses. I didn't even think of the routing tables, I don't network with linux. as I looked into the routing tables I saw that it only contained my locaol host. Then it got me to look into my iptables, except for I have the 2.4 kernel and they use ipchains. After looking in there I saw that my DNS servers were set up to acept UDP and there was no tcp specified. I could not change it to add tcp, fairly new to that but I was able to delete the two lines with the DNS servers on them and I connected right away.

Thank You for opening my mind.

1. the 2.4 kernel supports iptables, but if you are runnin RH 7.1...it think it does use ipchains by default

2. DNS uses udp not tcp so that should not be a problem (if im wrong someone please let me know....its my understanding that dns doesnt use tcp)

3. i have never used ipchains..so if this rule doesnt work..my bad:

ipchains -A input -p tcp --dport <the udp port here> -j ACCEPT

ipchains is a little like iptables except some stuff is no capitalized like the word "input", i would suggest doing man ipchains. also, i dont know if --dport will work or not or if ACCEPT should be accept.....sorry if nothing i said helped.
