Hello, I'm having a major dilemma here. Up until about a week ago, my download speed was at a rather nice 160-180KB/s, and I was rather happy with that. But, it slowed down. A lot. now my max d/l speed is about 40KB/s. I download stuff a lot, so having this slow of a connection is torture for me. Oh, and on internetfrog.com on the speed test, it says my d/l speed is supposed to be about 321KB/s and for some reason it can't even detect my upload speed. Strange. Any ideas about it?
Are you using DSL, cable....
Did you asked your provider?
From where and what are you downloading?
What happens if you download from a good ftp in your country (like from your provider)
What are the results at http://www.speedtest.net/
@repo: http://www.speedtest.net/result/861387665.png there are the results of speedtest.net. I am using DSL, split between my 360 and my computer though a Gigabit router. The download speed is the same or lower anywhere I download from. And no, I did not ask my provider, I never really thought about that. I will if I can't get it figured out through LQ.
@smoker: Well, I'd hope not, and if it is the case, it's about time they did. I've been downloading almost constantly for about 3 years now.

You should ask your ISP. It is highly likely that they have imposed limits on you. See their "Fair use" clauses in the contract, then pay them more for unlimited access if this is what you really need.
Something I may have failed to mention is that all of my phone calls have taken on a sort of graininess, you could say. Phone calls don't sound as good as they used to..

Chances are, then, you've got a problem on your line.
When you first posted, that seemed like the cause. Since, if you didn't change the SOFTWARE, and it was working good, then some part of the hardware changed. DSL lines, especially above-ground ones, have problems. In fact, I just had mine replaced, as did about 10 other people in my neighborhood...because squirrels chewed through the lines. It still WORKED, but was slow....
