multi hop gateway route

Hello

My question is can you setup a static route to a machine with a gateway that is several hops away?

1. My desire is to get from A to H
2. I can only modify routes at A
3. The default route is to follow the path A, B, C, D, E, F, H
4. I need to follow the path A, B, C, D, G, H
5. There is only one host at H I need to talk to.
6. I can get to G.
7. G knows where H is and I want to use G as a gateway to H.

I want to issue the following command:
route add -host H G

I tried the above route command with no success.

Please help.
Thank you
thllgo

I did not try the metric option. I may have found a way by setting a static route to the router that is several hops away and then I can use that router as a gateway.

The problem was solved in a proper fashion when the end party properly subnetted their addresses. This whole problem was because the end party had machine in the same subnet at two different points in the network.

Thank you

I never got the problem worked out. The other end changed their subneting so the default worked.

Sorry about that.
