modem-manager-gui wonīt start any more

Hi altogether,

All of a sudden modem-manager-gui doesnīt open up any more. When trying to get it running from the command-line I get the following error-message:

Code:
rosika@rosika-Lenovo-H520e ~> modem-manager-gui
Connection manager: Network Manager >= 0.9.0
Modem manager: Modem Manager >= 0.7.0
double free or corruption (out)
fish: 'modem-manager-gui' durch Signal SIGABRT (Abbruch) beendet
rosika@rosika-Lenovo-H520e ~> echo $status
134
Itīs really odd as it used to work just fine - until now.

Does anyone have a clue as to whatīs going on?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Greetings
Rosika

P.S.: my system: Lubuntu 18.04 LTS, 64 bit

fish???
are you consciously using the fish shell?

anyhow, this seems to be the relevant bit:
Code:
Connection manager: Network Manager >= 0.9.0
Modem manager: Modem Manager >= 0.7.0
double free or corruption (out)
now, i've never seen "double free or corruption (out)" before...
is there a version mismatch between nm and mm?
is your system fully updated
Code:
apt update
apt upgrade
???

Hi ondoho,

thank you for your response.

As far as fish-shell is concerned: Yes, I use it deliberately. For me the whole concept if it makes really sense. I like it very much.
BTW: When using bash I get the same results as far as my problem is concerened.

Me neither.

Well, I was also thinking along those lines......

Yes, by all means.

Anyhow, in the meantime I contacted Till Kamppeter, the maintainer of ModemManager, via e-mail and asked him about possible incompatibilities between ModemManager and modem-manager-gui.

Background:

Quote:
As part of regular updates I received the latest version of
*ModemManager* 1.10.0-1~ubuntu18.04.2 on 2019-05-17.

This was exactly the point in time when *modem-manager-gui* (v.
0.0.19.1-1) stopped working. The GUI-interface wonīt open anymore and
I get the error-message:
"double free or corruption (out)".

My question is: Is it possible that the new version of *ModemManager*
could be responsible for this? Might there be any incompatibilities?
He answered me:

Quote:
This is possible. We need to investigate this.

Please post a bug report on modem-manager for that. Thanks/
So that might be it.

Iīd gladly post a bug report but have no idea what website is suitable for that.

Cheers
Rosika

^ i'm sure you'll figure it out.
please don't be intimidated by the process.

meanwhile, i literally put that error message in a search engine - the first 3 results look interesting at least, if not helpful.

Hi ondoho,

thanks for the links. Thatīs really kind of you. Iīll look them up and try to investigate further.

As far as the bug-report is concerned it seems like the URL https://linuxonly.ru/forum/modem-manager-gui/# is the one to go.
Yet in order to post there it seems Iīll have to create an account first......

Greetings.
Rosika
