Yes, for this to happen, you will have to setup a program called samba, for shares to be used between your linux box and Windows

As long as your gateway (and the linux box is setup to use it) is setup to foward packets form that machine to the outside world, it should work, but not enought information is given. Im assuming its a windows computer that has the cable modem on it. If you already have other computers on your LAN sharing the connectoin, it should be just as simple as giving the linux box an IP address and specifing the IP address of the computer with the cable modem as your gateway.
