Question making linux print

i am trying to set up my linux box to print to a printer for my networking class. I've nver used linux before and i have no idea what to do. all the tutorials i find are for GUI linux. I'm not using GUI i'm just using the command lines and such. anyone help me out there?!?!?

Have a poke around on http://www.cups.org/ - CUPS does network printing.

Yuck.. Type "startx" to get to a graphical interface and type "printtool" or "printconf-gui" if the Linux is RedHat or similar.. Follow the prompts.

If this is a class networking project, they probably expect you to learn how to configure lpd.. It's really difficult. I'd be happy to help, but need more details on the objective.
