the shell you're using may not recognize "logout". try "exit"

??? ???

I'm sorry, but what are you logged into?

When you "logout" what do you expect to happen?

(ctrl+D often works)

I think what is trying to be said is that logging out is to be done from a graphical manager, not a shell, and it is not functioning.

First off.. what graphical manager are you using?

When you attempt to logout, what happens? Are you able to find the option "Logout" anywhere? Does it log you out, but log you back in? Does the button or menu item "Logout" not do anything when you press it?
