I'm trying to file share from my friends computer running windows xp pro and mine running Gentoo.
I've setup smb file sharing on my computer and I see my computer from his just fine. When I try to login it seems to be rejecting my user name and password. Although it doesn't say it rejects the password it just brings the login screen back and asks for my user name and password again.
What user name and password am I supposed to use? Or is there something else I need to do or am I doing something wrong?
You may have to add a 'smbpasswd' for the user. You'll have to use the -a option first to add the user to the file. It's been a while since I've used it so take a look at either the man page or smbpasswd -h.
