localhost error after setting up modem

I am getting a error window that pops up when booting to X/Gnome after setting up an external dial-up modem. It says Gnome was unable to find localhost and the Gnome won't work properly. I get the option to Try again or continue logging, It says the problem could be fixed if I add localhost.localdomain to /etc/hosts. When I opened this file up it was empty. I added the line to it but still get the error.

So anybody know why its doing this, and how to get the error window to stop popping up?

What line did you actually add to /etc/hosts? The line should have looked like this:

127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain

No, that wasn't the line I used. I put that in and it works fine now.
