Loadbalance requests from 1000 hosts to 3 samba servers

Hi all,

if someone has experiences in following scenario, please write

I have an box which should serve as firewall, router...etc, and also I would like to set on same box ( I do not have idea where to start ... ) system which will load-balance requests to internal network.

Let say network is as :

----|1000 x client | ---- | loadbalancer | ----- | 3 x samba_servers |

so I want to deliver equal requests to samba server from cca 1000 clients.

I am using debian/*BSD.

I just need a hint if someone made this, so I will play with it ...

Thank you and regards,

There are many many ways to approach something like this, can you just not use a Round-robin DNS record to do this? That provides no resilience in itself, but i'd also check something equally simple as cheap IP takeover http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/h/63 to pull the IP addresses between boxes if need be.

linux-ha.org and http://www.linuxvirtualserver.org/ has plenty of siginificantly more complex options, but something as simple as that could sort you out fine depending on your requirements.

Thank you acid_kewpie. Yes, you are right, regarding linux-ha, and I have two servers ( linux-ha+drbd ) and that part works ok, only now I want to play to make loadbalancing from hosts to servers in some fair-delivery.
Initially I thought to use n-th option in iptables and make it like that, but any other hint is more than welcome.

Will take a look at links thank you again

Nice regards,
