Well... considering RedHat 8 is 4-5 years old, I am very surprised that the sk98lin driver is even in the kernel. I use the same driver on my laptop to support 1000Mbit card, those kind of card were almost non-existent 5 years ago, so...
I really suggest to switch to a newer distribution or at the very least to a newer kernel. Running RH 8 is like running win98 on the latest P4 : useless, lack of features and hardwares support, big security risk and loss of performance.
Many thanks to Half Elf. I have another question before I go to Fedora. When I install the NIC drive in linux 9, I got an error message said "kernel header files not found. Install Linux header files development package." Does it mean I do not have source files installed? I did an installation from installation CD. How may I fix this problem? Thank you!
The kernel and the header are not exactly the same... it would be complex to explain, but let's say they come both in different package...
If you choose default installation on most RedHat-like you don't get all the development tools and packages, as the kernel headers, gcc, g++, make and all these things you need to compile sources. If you need those, you need to choose them while you install or to get them later.
But you shuoldn't need to compile the driver, Fedora should be able to handle your network out of box.
