Linux/Windows Environment

Is there a way that I can have Windows and DOS machines connect to a linux server? I woudl like to have these machines log onto the server and run application from the server. It would be nice if the windows machines coudl run XWindows. I have have always used Linux in a command line environment except at the console. I am currently using Samba for file sharing, I would just like to be able to utilize my Linux servers more. Any help or ideas is appreciated.

SSH to the Linux server with something like PuTTY?

Xceed (possibly misspelled) or something like runs on Windows and will let you run X.

I was playing with CYGWIN earlier today and it just looked like it was a UNIX emulator for the PC that is was installed on. Where can I find some documentation on how to use this?

OK, I have Cygwin/X up and running on my PC. However, I still can't seem to get XWindows to run. All it does is open up a XWindows screen that is blank, I can do anything with the window. Also, how do I connect to a remote Linux box and run XWindows, all I get is a console connection? I will keep looking for different documentation, but if someone can help out I would really appreciate it.
