linksys router won't let me surf the net

I have a linksys router BEFSR41 the dns numbers look look the same.But i can ping google.com ip numner but i can't even surf the net for some reason.Not sure what i am doing wroung.

Do you have those "numbers" in your /etc/resolv.conf file?

Yes i look in there.My dns numbers are right.Could it be a ip number prob?

Still sounds like a problem with looking up domain names.

If you do ping yahoo.com does it say unknown host or does it get an ip address.

I can't ping yahoo web apge at all.But i can ping google.com ip number.Yes it say unknown host when i ping www.yahoo.com

Hmm, show us your /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/nsswitch.conf files
Can you ping your nameservers?

you could try running tcpdump and see if it is actually trying to contact the nameservers.

I can ping each server and dns.How can this be a domain names prob?

Because you can ping the IP but not the name, hence you have a problem with name resolution. Try running dhcpcd and then giving it another whirl.

host www.yahoo.com
?

name resolution is what turns your ip into www.yourdomain.com. it translates the text of yourdomain.com into the address of the computer serving it. It is what makes google.com =xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

how bout setting yor dns search path to your router?
