Connected to network but canīt surf the net

Hi all I have just been though all the motions of getting my Lin modem installed on Linux Red Hat 9.0 I can now connect to the network. I head the modem dial and connect and it stays connected to my ISP.

When I open Mozilla (not sure how its spelled) the web browser it doesnīt seem to realise that there is a network connection.

What can I do now?

Thanks
Adam

Try editing your /etc/resolv.conf file and make sure your ISPs dns numbers are correct. Here is mine for a sample:
Code:
domain infoave.net
nameserver 206.74.254.2
nameserver 204.116.57.2

Yeah thanks

I was reading about someone who had a similar problem and managed to get it sorted allthough it was though a gui configuration program ... as I am still very new... 2 days with linux now. Just getting all my book marks from windows and I am off the only things I need windows for are my tv card and my digital camera... but I will work my way arounds these I hope!

thanks

Try pinging some external IP#'s like:
66.218.71.198
Then try pinging some addresses like
yahoo.com

If you can ping the numbers, you most likely have a DNS problem. If you can ping both, but cannot get Mozilla to pull up a webpage, there may be something else in the configs that needs to be set up. Try to ping some stuff first and let us know.

Good luck!
