I'm new to the Linux community and just installed RH8.0 (didn't go to smoothly, even with my Linux geek friend to help me through some ide=nodma boot option) and I've run into a problem with considerable lag on my pc when I activate my ethernet card.
I'm not sure what's going on... when using the 'networking tools' in gnome/kde I have setup my ehth0 card with the correct adapter and all, and when I 'activate' it, it works. I haven't connected to the internet yet via my Bellsouth DSL (one step at a time) cause I want to know why when my card is active the lag occurs. For instance, if I activate it and open a new terminal it takes like 30 seconds to load, but when inactive takes about 2 seconds?!
WTF?
BTW, the card works when activated too, cause I can ping my gateway and my other windows machines connected. Also, I ran top and found nothing to be out of line.
Anyway, step #2 was to get connected to my Bellsouth DSL. I installed Roaring Penguin, ran through the setup, and connected to the my Bellsouth DSL... almost. I mean, it assings me an ip and the script says it connected, but I can't ping or see anything outside of my network?
