Kppp have problem with openSUSE 11.2 64-bit and huawei E220 USB-modem.

Kppp works on my 32-bit computer and as root on my 64-bit. As a user I can start a connection but only from the konsole and the program will not return to desktop. If I leave the konsole I lose control of kppp and can't stop, restart or have info from it. A list of messages follow:

Opener: received SetSecret
Opener: received OpenDevice
Opener: received ExecPPPDaemon
In parent: pppd pid 6362
Couldn't find interface ppp0: No such device
Kernel supports ppp alright.
Opener: received OpenResolv
Opener: received RemoveSecret
Opener: received RemoveSecret
ioctl(SIOCGPPPSTATS): No such device
ioctl(SIOCGPPPSTATS): No such device
It was pppd that died
pppd exited with return value 12
Sending 6358 a SIGUSR1
Opener: received RemoveSecret
Opener: received RemoveSecret
Opener: received OpenResolv
Opener: received OpenResolv
Opener: received PPPDExitStatus
Opener: received PPPDExitStatus

Som messages are two of the same, I don't know why. Tried to run kppp on a debugger but that was complicated.
Hopefully someone could help me fix the problem. Having the program icon on desktop and in function would be good. As it is now it's also unstable.

SuSE comes with UMTSmon. Why don't you install that and try again...

Thanks for the tip but it's not the solution of my problem. UMTSmon uses kppp inside and did'nt work at all. The program connected and immediatly disconnected in a loop with a period of about a second. I tried to uninstall the program with yast but some code stayed resident and made kppp useless. To end the misery I reinstalled SUSE 11.2 as there was other graphical problems to solve.
I have set suid bit in kppp and do not understand why that woun't help. Running the program as root gives no problem. There have always been lot of work at update times so I keep at least one computer with a previous version. My suse 10.3 works very well.

Is KPPP PAM-aware? I had problems with software using PAM.

Did you compare the groups of your dial out user in SuSE 10.3 and SuSE 11.2 respectively?

Finally after much of work I found that KDE4 interfere with some programs execution and make them hang or malfunction. To get KPPP run as before KDE4 I have to run it from a terminal.I can do that until I find a replacement for KDE4. Migrating from 10.3 to 11.2 have give nothing but greif and lots of problems to solve, most of them come from KDE4.
