KPPP dying after about 3 minutes??

KPPP has a bad habit of crashing after about 3 -5 minutes. This doesn't happen all the time but it is frequent enough to be driving me nuts. There is no error code it just says that it hangup and then exited......anyone have any clues as to what may be causing this?? The same box runs XP and there are no problems with XP. So I know it is something with Linux....

I *_HATE_* Kppp with a undying passion. It's by far the most horrible way to connect to the internet from Linux IMHO. I'd honestly rather write my own chat and ifcfg scirpt to connect (hehe and I do) then try to use that POS (no offense to the person/people that wrote the app I'm sure others have a great success with it -- I just don't).

I would strongly recommond using the ifcfg script to set up your modem (ppp device) and connect using the method I stated above -- I've never had a problem with that. Or possibly use wvdial to connect. I know that it sucks to open up a terminal all the time to connect ( I haven't found any KDE software such as GNOME's modem lights; although I never looked much) but it's better than Kppp.

P.S. you could also write a small script to connect/disconnect w/ ifup and ifdown and just run that in KDE.

Real problem is ISP

I used wvdial (and yes it is much better to use, very simple and it won't disconnect untill I Ctrl+C it) The real cause of the problem was my ISP. Sometimes it just fails to respond to requests from my machine.....last nite it was like this for 15 minutes untill I disconnected and dialled back in. wvdial would not drop the connection where as KPPP will disconnect if it thinks the connection at the other end is lost. I will continue to use wvdial form now on and will be changing ISP......oh how I yearn for broadband, but living in the bush we use carrier pidgeons to move 1 and 0 between sites!! Thanks for the help Rab22
