just installed Fedora Core1 now DHCP doesn't work

I had redhat9 previously installed and DHCP had setup itself with no extra effort on my part. NIC was recognized and I could see google.

I just installed Fedora Core 1. Everything looks like it should work but it won't connect to the internet. It wouldn't even connect during installation to the Redhat clock server. Please help

Same here

I'm not sure what the problem is because I had the same one. I'm sure you performed a few reboots. Maybe it is trying to be to much like Windows. Did you see how the background fades during log out or reboot selection?

I didn't notice fade in and outs. I started a reinstall and the realized that maybe the firewall caused problems so I"m installing it again without the firewall to see if it works then I'll se the firewall up

Me Too!

I had a perfectly good install of redhat 9 running and I decided to "upgrade" my machine to Fedora Core 1, mainly for the ext3 filesystem and kernal updates, but now my dhcp doesn't work. Anyone figure this out yet?

Now, I have noticed some really, really strange behavior:

1. On boot, eth0 is not active. Once I activate it, it gets an IP address just fine.
2. Once I get this IP address, I can ping my router and I can access the webbased router config (Linksys Wireless G router) but I cannot get out to the internet. This seems extremely odd to me but I have no explanation as to why this might happen.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks
jason

Angry same problem

I've got the same problem.... although in my case I got it to run for a bit by first dhcping on the network with a windows machine and then stealing the ip address.

don't know what to do.

This fixed things for me

I got this info from someone else on another post. it worked right away. Just had to completely reboot the system

You are probably experiencing a bug with Kudzu and the 3Com network driver.

If this is the case, you can try disabling "kudzu" as a workaround :

- Change to the root user with the command "su -"
- Disable Kudzu in the runlevels 3, 4 and 5 with the command "chkconfig --level 345 kudzu off"
- Reboot the system.

Note : Kudzu is a program which detects and configures new and/or changed hardware on a system.

I got online by installing another ethernet card. It was a linksys usb one that I had lying around when I went wireless with my laptop. Fedora picked it up right away, made it eth1 (I didn't take out my old one). I manually pulled an ip and I was online just like that.

I even rebooted and it made the change official and I have that device in my boot now.

Still can't figure out why it didn't work originally. Will have to try what you said above.

Interesting observation

ifdown eth0
pop out xircom pcmcia ethernet card
pop it back in
ifup eth0

boom, I can use the network.
