i completely forgot about this because i was trying to fix another problem...ummm i had to reinstall mandriva and now ive completely forgotten how to set up my ip addresses etc. and also i checked out those guide and guardog programs but they are only for the 2.4 kernel...would it still work?

i'll try as much as i can tonight

I got Guarddog & GuideDog running on Mepis (Linux ver 2.6) so it should work for you as well.
