Is it possible to know IP address.

Is it possible to know IP address of those friends who are online in amsn. If yes, does it have to be a server program running into the friend's pc or can it be just done by some commands in console?

The only way you're going to be able to figure out somebodies IP is if you do a direct connection to them in some way. If you do a direct connection in any way you can pick out the IP that makes sense when you type netstat -ta on a command line.

MSN and AOL don't do a direct connection for most things other then file transfers.

thank you for your reply,
i tried with netstat -ta in konsole with a file transfer going on with an online friend of mine who was running msn messenger in windowsxp.

what i noticed as the only tcp ip number was

tcp 0 0 dial2.healthnet.o:32809 207.46.107.50:1863 ESTABLISHED

no other field with Ip number is seen and that this message is seen even when there is no file transfer, what might have happened, could you help please
