ip address


I am using a cisco 678 with dhcp. and I cant seem to figure out how to show my ip address. could anyone help

firewall

one more thing can anyone recommend a good site that shows how to set up a standard firewall with kernel 2.2.x i just want to block incoming connections to certain ports.

I was wondering somthing simlar, i use a 678 also, and i wish to telnet into my box from an outside location and when i do i get to telnet into my modem instead of my box.

What distro are you using? If it's RH7.2 it has a gui firewall tool built, also check http://freshmeat.net

As far as dhcp ip being assigned? You need some kind
of dynamic DNS update tool, what why would be to use
a service like http://www.dyndns.org

Blocking of cetrain ports from hosts comes in to the hosts.deny file. At least thats whut i remember from about 3 years ago. RH4.0 heh.

It seem to me that hosts.deny and hosts.allow can be made to do the same thing depending are how you set them up:



hosts.deny:
ALL : ALL EXCEPT LOCAL
or
ALL : EXECPT mylan.net

Would only allow access to that one "box" from internal
network called mylan.net
