Internet via router/accesspoint


Hi!

After dealing about 10 hours with getting my WLAN-Card connect to my WLAN-Accesspoint, i finally got it working

I use a NETGEAR WLAN-Accesspoint that is Switch, router and DSL-Modem too. I want to use this router to get on the internet.
Everything works fine on windows

I use suse 10.1, dhcp works fine. My IP is 192.168.0.2, the IP of the router is 192.168.0.1. I can ping it and I can ping another Pc in the network (winXP) too. So the WLAN seems to work.

But I cannot get on the internet using my linux.
I tried
route add default gw 192.168.0.1
for gateway, I thought that would do it, but it does not.
Here is what I get when typing route:

linux:~ # route
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
192.168.0.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 ra0
loopback * 255.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 lo

I hope that would help.

So my questions is: What do I have to do, to use my linux to get on the internet? I read abohujt nameservers and dns, but I do not know anything about that... so maybe you can explain me what to do?
Would be very nice

It looks like you have routing set up. Can you ping a network host by IP (try doing "ping 64.233.161.104" -- this is a machine a Google). If you can ping that machine but not www.google.com then you have a name resolution issue. Setting up name servers is not hard. Your ISP should provide a list of IP addresses of its DNS servers. You should add these to /etc/resolv.conf in the format:

Code:
nameserver <IP address 1>
nameserver <IP address 2>
You can have as many name servers as you like (or your ISP gives you).
