You have to log in as root and edit the file

network

in the directory

/etc/sysconfig

change the gateway to 192.168.1.1

restart the network, type it word for word this time

/etc/init.d/network restart

This will only possibly help if you are using a static I, one that you entered yourself

If you got the IP via DHCP from the router I'd turn off everything including the router for a few seconds, turn the router back on followed by everything else.

Right - take a step back - slow down.

You initially configured these settings yourself yes? As far as everyone can see the gateway setting is wrong.

You wouldn't have a gateway of what you've got through DHCP unless your router was having a particularly bad day.

So the easiest thing looks like it's going to be start again from the beginning.

as root type in

neat

and take your time reconfiguring everything - if you don't know what an option means - don't put anything in

if neat doesn't work type in

netconfig

and configure the basic settings there

then restart you're network (reboot the computer even)

/etc/init.d/network restart

Well, you did it yourself really!!

See, what happens when you slow down and think about things a little?

To be honest it was becoming just a wee bit obvious you weren't too familiar using the command line, but ye shall rise and conquer eventually
