HI
when i write the command ifconfig in the terminal the following output comes:

[common@IBR18 common]$ ifconfig
bash: ifconfig: command not found
[common@IBR18 common]$

does the command need the root acccess to execute? please note that i doesn't have any root access

thanks

The command does not need root access to run as you are calling it, i.e., just plain ifconfig without any command line options. It's probably just not in your path. However, trying to shut down an interface with it, e.g., ifconfig eth1 down, WOULD require root permissions.

Try:
Code:
$ /sbin/ifconfig
