I am looking for a very basic tutorial or howto start and run iptables

system os fedora 9
history: I had this computer running as my firewall in
Seattle (10 yrs ago). do to prolonged sickness moved and rebuild my interest in linux in the passed 3 months. In Seattle eth0 was DHCP'ed from ISP's DSL (Verizon). Eth1 home network side. My current ISP wants to run PPP. I have PPP up and running. It only works if iptables is disabled. I went back through my rules and replaced all refernces of eth0 with ppp0. Now iptables will not load. Question do I need remove eth0 so it does not show up in ifconfig output or do I need to rap my head how to load iptables? OR BOTH.

Many Thanks. From the doc's you gave me I was able to config eth0 and ppp0e and are now and up and running. I am well on my way to updating and adding to iptables filtering. Many thanks again.
