How to remove old iptables.

Hi all,

I have iptables 1.4.7 in my system.I want to install new version of iptables.

I did follwoing things

1.downloaded the iptables-1.4.11.tar.bz2 from internet.
2.tar -xvjf iptables-1.4.11.tar.bz2
3.cd iptables-1.4.11
4. ./configure
5. make
6. make install

but after that when I am using the command

#iptables -V

This is older version of iptables as it is not showing the old version 1.4.7 but when i am opening the man page

#man iptables
this showing the newer man page of 1.4.11

kindly tell me what to do now.

Thanks
pradipta

What distro are you using? You should probably uninstall iptables following the usual procedure of your distro for removal of packages. Then you install the newer version of the package.

Again, as you've been asked before in your other threads, you need to tell us what version/distro of Linux you're using. Because installing things from source, rather than from pre-compiled package, isn't the best way to go, unless you absolutely NEED a particular feature.

Chances are you've got two binary packages..one from your source install, and one from the default package. Do an "rpm -qa | grep -i iptables", find the package name, and remove it. If you don't find anything, you'll have to hunt down the duplicate files one-by-one, and remove them.

Also, you're doing an install of 1.4.11...which is NOT the latest version, which is 1.4.18. Why are you installing an old version?
