How to hold static ip address from a different gateway router


Hi, I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 and my setup is as follows:

network:
192.168.13.1
--comp1
--comp2
192.168.25.1
--me
--comp4

As you can see, I am directly connected to router 192.168.25.1, and so my ip address is 192.168.25.101. I want my ip address to be 192.168.13.101, and make router 192.168.13.1 my gateway router. Is this possible under the current physical layout (I do not want to have to connect directly into 192.168.13.1, but keep my computer where it is at)?

Note: When I run tracepath, it shows 192.168.13.1 is one hop away.

What I've tried:
*Manually set ip: 192.168.13.101
*Manually set mask: 255.255.255.0
*Manually set gateway: 192.168.13.1
*Manually set up dns servers through /etc/resolv.conf

The problem is under this manual setup, I cannot ping 192.168.13.1 and running command netstat -rn returns the following:

Kernel IP routing table

You can manually add (but keep the existing address) that address, then add a route table entry to the routers.

You may wish to adjust the default source address for the default route using the ip command.

Why? That seems pointless and complicated.

I want 192.168.13.1 to be my gateway router because I want to *appear* to be on that subnet, and unfortunately I have no admin access to the routers, so I can't add any routes to the table. I have a feeling that this may be impossible, given the circumstances.
