how to get my ip address allocated by dhcp on dsl

Using a DSL connection.

As far as I can understand it my IP provider dynamically allocates me with an IP address any time I connect; i believe by dhcp.

They tell me this address will not change unless I reboot.

How can I find out what the address of my machine is on the Internet?

ifconfig?

Or visit a site that can tell you your IP, like this one What's my IP

great.

i've been searching for this answer for weeks.

ifconfig doesn't do it because i'm on a lan which is using a gateway dsl modem.

ifconfig reports my local network address.

but What's my IP really works, or at least it returns an IP address that looks valid.
